Charlie Brooker: How to realise David Cameron's vision for Britain's film industry | Comment is free | The Guardian

British film-makers! Put down those clapperboards and pay attention because David Cameron, who happens to be a huge fan of your work – assuming you’re making The King’s Speech II – wants you to focus on films likely to be a “commercial success”. Which presumably is the last thing you want.

Cynics say Cameron knows squit about British films. When that photo of SamCam and Michelle Obama having a coffee morning in the Downing Street flat was released, there didn’t seem to be many British films in the Cameron DVD collection. Not even Carry On Screaming. Mainly US TV boxsets. Oh, and he owns the film Armageddon on DVD. It’s hard not to judge him for that.

To be fair, the photo was taken before The King’s Speech had come out on DVD. Apparently he bought 26 copies of that. Not deliberately – he thought the disc was sticking so he kept buying it again and again, until he realised the lead character had a stutter.

Election 2010 - Update

phillipreeves:

Cameron updates Facebook status to ‘in a relationship, but it’s complicated’. More soon.

(You guys should follow my friend phillipreeves - he’s really smart, and he has a very English sense of humour. Maybe you can also persuade him to post some of his lovely photographs here…)

Q: Prime Minister Cameron, are you going to regret that once when asked what your favourite joke was you answered: “Nick Clegg”?

CAMERON: Oh well… you know we’re all… [embarrassment]
CLEGG: Really? [disbelief]
CAMERON: I’m afraid I did, yes. [laughs]
CLEGG pretends to walk out in a hissy fit
CAMERON: Please come back!

Con-Dem Nation

This is getting ridiculous: now Cameron & Clegg are giving a press conference together. In a rose garden. Standing behind two podiums with the royal crest.

It’s like they are getting married or something.

(FYI, Margaret Thatcher and husband are sitting on the groom’s side.)

Wish people would stop being so negative. But still think this is cute/funny.

Greetings from Toffland

Prime Minister David Cameron has just left Westminster in his Jaguar, headed for Buckingham Palace, where Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will give him a mandate to form a government. He is the twelfth PM during her reign.

Better go join the Bullingdon Club quick - or, indeed, the Freemasons. I heard the  Lady Freemasons get to have tea with Cameron, what-what?

Loosely speaking, then – in fact, speaking with a looseness likely to be matched only by David Cameron’s bowel movements – that is where we are now. It should go without saying that in the time it takes to press the send key we shall be somewhere else entirely. Indeed, given that the cliche of the hour is that “we are in uncharted territory”, the cartographers should surely name these coordinates the Straits of WTF and be done with it.

The Common People - a Pulp cover song about the life of David Cameron and the apparently incoming Tory administration. God help us.
