Alex Rodriguez becomes seventh player to hit 600 career home runs - guardian.co.uk
Alex Rodriguez hit his 600th career home run today, becoming just the seventh player in Major League Baseball to achieve the feat. The New York Yankees third baseman reached the milestone when he hit a two-run home run off Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Shaun Marcum to centre field in the first inning at Yankee Stadium.
The homer by the 35-year-old Rodriguez was his 17th of the season and made him the youngest player to join the 600 club.
Barry Bonds tops the all-time home run list with 762, followed by Hank Aaron with 755 and Babe Ruth on 714 – the only three players in the MLB’s 700-club.
Ruth, who slugged most of his home runs after joining the Yankees from the Boston Red Sox in 1920, was previously the youngest to register his 600th home run at age 36.
Just FYI. (Damn Yankees.)
